Upcoming sale at Christie’s: “La vie de château, collection Jean-Louis Remilleux”

On September 28 and 29, Christie’s will hold a large sale of Jean-Louis Remilleux’s collection of paintings, sculptures, furniture, and objets d’art. The French TV producer is selling his collection to fund the partial restoration of his château de Digoine in southern Burgundy. The sale includes an impressive number of furniture and works of art from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. Here are some of my top picks of the eighteenth century from this auction:

Jean-Louis Laneuville, La Citoyenne Tallien (1773-1835) dans un cachot à la force, ayant dans les mains ses cheveux qui viennent d’être coupés, oil on canvas
Fire screen, Beauvais tapestry representing a scène galante after François Boucher from c. 1750-60, screen from 19th century
Bed à la polonaise from Louis XV period, middle of 18th century
Neoclassical mantel clock, from manufacture du duc d’Angoulême, last quarter of the eighteenth century; ormolu-mounted porcelain and biscuit
Circle of François-Hubert Drouais, Portrait of Marie-Antoinette, oil on canvas
A wall clock, two candle sticks, a letter carrier, and a console

You can learn more about the collector and his château on Christie’s and Architectural Digest website. All photos are from Christie’s.
